Twelve of Jürgen Klopp’s squad players have been called up to play for respective nations during the March international duty.

European Championship

Eight of Liverpool’s first-team will begin the opening stages of their campaigns to qualify for the 2024 European Championship.

Among those is captain Jordan Henderson, who has been included in the Three Lions squad for a qualifying double match. England’s visit Italy on March 23 before hosting Ukraine on March 26 at Wembley.

Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk, similarly, tackle France on March 24 and Gibraltar on March 27 for the Netherlands. With the former fixture seeing them face Liverpools teammate Ibrahima Konate, while the Blues also meet Caoimhin Kelleher’s Republic of Ireland three days later. The Reds keeper and Ireland will first face a friendly with Latvia on March 22 before beginning Euro 2024 qualifying against France on March 27.

Andy Robertson captaining Scotland against Cyprus on March 25 and Spain on March 28. While Kostas Tsimikas and Greece are preparing for fixtures against Gibraltar on March 24 and Lithuania on March 27. Diogo Jota and Portugal will take Liechtenstein on March 23 and Luxembourg on March 26.

Africa Cup of Nations

Meanwhile, over in Africa, Mo Salah and Egypt are set for a double-header versus Malawi in AFCON qualifying. The first of two matches will take place on March 24. While a return fixture is penned in four days later on March 28. Also in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, Naby Keita’s Guinea will take on Ethiopia on March 24 and March 27.

Other matches

Finally, at U21 level Englishman Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones have been included in England’s squad for friendly fixtures against France on March 25 and Croatia on March 28.

Of those who often travel to national teams, this time Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino did not receive a call. Darwin Nunez has been called up but will not be running due to injury.
