Match Highlights
26′. Jones sees yellow for a challenge on Bissouma but after a VAR check and the referee is shown a red card. It’s obvious that No.17 wasn’t intentionally trying to hurt Bissouma, but he went over the top of the ball and caught him high with studs. Liverpool are down to 10!
35′. 0:0. NO GOAL! Salah to slide the ball through the middle to Diaz. No.7 puts the ball away with a great finish but the linesman sticks his flag straight up. The VAR is involved again…
I’m not convinced he was even offside either.
36′. 1:0. A clever through ball from Maddison and Richarlison races the left onto a pass. The Brazilian squares across goal for Son to tap in.
40′. Mac Allister is shown the yellow card for a tackle foul on Son.
45+3′. Udogie is booked for a late one on Gakpo.
45+4′. 1:1. GOAL! It is a brilliant turn and finish from Cody.
Szoboszlai recycles a cleared set-piece back into the far post onto the head of Van Dijk, who nods it back across goal. The ball bounces behind Gakpo, but No.18 controls it before hitting it on the half-turn.
65′. Salah is shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away.
68′. Udogie is getting away from Jota, who just sticks out a leg to clip him from behind. No.20 is shown a yellow card.
69′. The Reds now down to nine men as Jota picks up daft yellows in quick succession, again for a foul on Udogie.
87′. Robertson goes into the referee’s book.
88′. Bissouma is booked for holds Endo off by putting a hand to the midfielder’s face.
89′. This time yellow card for Romero, who blocks off Szoboszlai’s run.
90+5′. There’s another yellow card here, this time for van Dijk, who is deemed to be time-wasting.
90+6′. 2:1. Own goal… Heartbreak for Liverpool as Matip’s attempted clearance from a Porro dangerous cross smashes into the top corner of Alisson’s net.
90+7′. Porro’s celebration is deemed to be excessive.
90+8′. Veliz also goes into the book for time-wasting.

Liverpool FC statement
On Sunday evening, Liverpool FC published an extra on the official website.
“Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL’s admission of their failures last night. It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, resulting in sporting integrity being undermined.
We fully accept the pressures that match officials work under but these pressures are supposed to be alleviated, not exacerbated, by the existence and implementation of VAR.
It is therefore unsatisfactory that sufficient time was not afforded to allow the correct decision to be made and that there was no subsequent intervention.
That such failings have already been categorised as “significant human error” is also unacceptable. Any and all outcomes should be established only by the review and with full transparency.
This is vital for the reliability of future decision-making as it applies to all clubs with learnings being used to make improvements to processes in order to ensure this kind of situation cannot occur again.
In the meantime, we will explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution.”
