The Reds have seen 12 players called up for international duty in the September break from Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad.

After two postponed Premier League games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea and a much-needed 2-1 win over Ajax, have taken a break from international matches. This 17-day gap between fixtures is the only pause before the World Cup in Qatar.

National teams will play friendly matches in the second half of September, as well as games in the League of Nations (for European teams).

Who goes to the national teams?

Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho have been called up to the Brazilian national team. Fortunately, there is a short trip ahead – the Brazilians will play friendly matches in France, in rivals Ghana and Tunisia.

The same can be said for Darwin Nunez, the Uruguayan national team that will play a friendly matches in Austria against Iran and in Slovakia against Canada.

That is not the case for Luis Diaz, however. The Colombian national team will play their friendly matches against Guatemala and Mexico in the USA. Liverpool’s winger has already arrived at the location of the Colombians.

The England team will play in the Nations League against Italy and Germany. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the sole representative of the Merseysiders of the Three Lions.

Virgil van Dijk has been called up to the Netherlands national team. He will lead national team in the Nations League matches against Poland and Belgium.

Mo Salah is part of the Egypt squad to face Niger and Liberia.

Kostas Tsimikas will represent Greece squad in the Nations League matches with Cyprus and Northern Ireland.

Diogo Jota has been called up by Portugal and can expect to start in the Nations League matches against Czech Republic and Spain.

Harvey Elliott called up to the England under-21 squad.
