Rangers vs Liverpool UEFA Champion League Group A Matchday 4 fixtures

First half of the European campaign and prepare for the game

Liverpool play better in the Champions League than in the Premier League. By the equator of the group stage, the Merseysiders have six points and second place in the group.

The third and fourth matchday are traditionally held between the same opponents, so eight days after the first match Liverpool will play Rangers again. Ajax and Napoli will play their match in the early slot, and by the kick-off whistle at Ibrox, the result of their duel will already be known.

In the first leg at Anfield, Liverpool won comfortably 2-0 thanks to an Alexander-Arnold free-kick and Mo Salah’s penalty. The Rangers looked frankly weak and could not really offer anything.

Both clubs played league matches last weekend. The Reds lost to Arsenal 2:3 away, while the Glasgow club beat St Mirren 4:0 at home.

Whatever Liverpool’s current form, Jurgen Klopp’s team must beat Rangers. If Ajax fails to beat Napoli, then with the victory of the Merseysiders, the issue of going to the playoffs will be practically solved.

The referee from Slovenia Slavko Vincic, has been appointed to referee the matchday 4.

Past matches

Surprisingly, in their 130-year history together, Liverpool and Rangers played their first official match against each other last week.

Team news

For Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz and Joel Matip were injured in the Arsenal game. Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all rebounded at Liverpool. But Andy Robertson has returned to action and, according to Klopp, will be in the line-up.

For Rangers, still have Jon Souttar, Janis Hadi, Nnamdi Ofoborh and Filip Helander injured.

Liverpool line-up

Jurgen Klopp’s team is likely to return to a 4-3-3 formation after Diaz’s injury. Otherwise, attack players will be recruited only for the starting line-up without the possibility of strengthening.

The defensive line-up is expected to be Kostas Tsimikas, Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez. From the first minutes after the injury, the Scot Andy Robertson is unlikely to be put in the squad.

Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Harvey Elliot are waiting for us in the center of the field.

In attack, Diogo Jota will play in the position of Luis Diaz on the left wind. Mohamed Salah will play on the right wing, he rarely gets into the rotation. Both striker Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez now look effective in the center of the attack, and it is difficult to say which of them Klopp will choose.
