Liverpool will play two friendly matches while in Dubai next month for training camp during the World Cup.
The members of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad who are not at the World Cup and, most likely, part of the players of the youth system of the Reds will spend 12 days in the United Arab Emirates. There, the Merseysiders will prepare for the second part of the 2022/23 season, interrupted for the World Cup in Qatar. Liverpools players involved in the World Cup will join in Dubai once their nation’s participation in the competition has concluded.
As well as training, Liverpool will also play in a friendly tournament called the Dubai Super Cup.
Liverpool will play against Olympique Lyonnais and AC Milan. Fellow Premier League side Arsenal will also compete in the Dubai Super Cup but not play against the Reds.
Liverpool domestic schedule now paused until the League Cup (Carabao Cup) tie at Manchester City at Round 4 on December 22.
Dubai Super Cup
The points-scoring format of the Dubai Super Cup is unique one.
In total there will be four matches, with each team playing two throughout the tournament. After each match, a penalty shootout will also take place for additional points to be gained.
Points are awarded as follows:
• Win – three points awarded to the match winner;
• Draw – two points awarded to each team;
• Penalty Shootout Wins – one point awarded to the winner of the penalty shootout.
The team with the most points at the end of the tournament will be declared the Dubai Super Cup Champion!
Klopp’s men will first meet French outfit Lyon kick off at 14:00 GMT on Sunday December 11, followed by a tie with reigning Serie A champions AC Milan kick-off at 15.30 GMT on Friday December 16.
All clashes in the Dubai Super Cup will take place in Dubai at the 15,000 capacity Al Maktoum Stadium, Oud Metha.
