Qualified for Champions League knockouts and before matchday 6
On November 1, 2022 Liverpool will host Napoli at Anfield stadium in the 6th round of the Champions League Group stage. Starting whistle at 20:00 (UK time).
By the final round of the group stage, both Liverpool and Napoli have already secured a ticket to the knockout stages. The Reds have 12 points and Napoli have 15.
In the first round in Naples, Liverpool lost 1:4, which means that for the first place in the group, the Merseysiders need to win with a difference of 4 goals or more. Let’s be objective, this is extremely unlikely, which means that the match has no tournament value.
Liverpool is in an incomprehensible state, the team alternates between victories over strong rivals and defeats from outsiders. As a result, the team of Jurgen Klopp settled in the middle of the Premier League table.
Napoli, on the other hand, are in great form. Luciano Spalletti’s team leads Serie A and goes unbeaten. The goal difference is 30-9 in the Seria A and 20-4 in the Champions League. Napoli’s winning streak in all competitions has been going on since the beginning of September and has already reached 13 matches. No wonder Klopp called the Neapolitans the best team in Europe right now. Napoli Georgian midfielder Khvicha Kvaratskhelia became, perhaps, the main discovery of the season in Italy.
The referee of the matchday 6 for the occasion is Germany’s Tobias Stieler, who has overseen Merseysiders just once before.
Liverpool line-up
At the pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp hinted at the possibility of a rotation. In the conditions of a hard schedule and constant injuries, it would be possible to release at least a completely reserve squad, but the Boss is unlikely to do this.
The defensive line-up is expected to be Kostas Tsimikas, Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In midfield we expect Jordan Henderson, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.
In attack, due to injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, there is essentially no opportunity for rotation. The attack line-up is expected to be Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.
