As 32 of the world’s best national teams compete to be called the absolute best in Qatar, the Reds can take a much-needed break and reboot ahead of the second part of this challenging season.
On December 22, Liverpool will play their first official match after the World Cup break against Manchester City. But the Merseysiders will play two friendly games in Dubai in mid-December for the Dubai Super Cup.
But what was the first part of the 2022/23 campaign for the Merseysiders?
First part of the 2022/23 campaign
After 14 games in the Premier League, Liverpool have banked 22 points and sit in sixth place. And Reds disjointed start leaves them 7 adrift of a top-four spot and 15 points off leaders Arsenal. But Jurgen Klopp’s side have played a game less than fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
A lot has been made of Liverpool’s first half of the 2022/23 season after four league defeats in just 14 games, double the amount recorded across the entire 38 fixtures last season.
As for how the start to the Premier League season compares to previous twelve campaigns, only in three other seasons have the Reds notched less than 22 points after fourteens games since 2010/11. As for positions in the table, the lowest Reds have been after fourteen games is 12th in 2012/13, whilst they have twice been 1st (2019/20 and 2020/21).
Liverpool have plenty of work to do when their campaign of Premier League resumes against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. The Reds training camp in Dubai will afford the boss plenty of time to lay the foundations.
“We know we can do better, we have to do better, and we will do better,” Jurgen Klopp said after the last game before the World Cup break.
