Based on The Athletic article, the results of the past 2022/23 campaign, which brought more disappointments than joyful moments.
The Reds started the season by beating Manchester City in the Community Shield. And few could have imagined that this campaign Liverpool will not take an active part in the clash for the Premier League title and cups.
Almost from the beginning in the Premier League, the Merseysiders resembled an old crumpled banknote, forgotten in a down jacket last spring. It could be smoothed out, to give it some kind of presentable appearance, but the bill was no longer able to accept the appearance of a new banknote. At some point during the campaign, the thought even flashed that now, finally, good old Liverpool will show its true self, get on the rails and rush to the top four at full speed, but no. And even at the end of the season 25 points out of 33 possible actually did not save the situation.
Liverpool finished in fifth place, missing out on the Champions League. Liverpool fans are waiting for the Europa League and matches on Thursdays. If we talk only about the results of the facts, then that’s it. But, let’s be honest, should we forget about the good moments that Klopp’s team gave to their fans? I guess not.
25 – the difference in points scored from last season. Liverpool had 92 points in 2021/22 and 67 in 2022/23.
Memorable match
Defeat Manchester United in the north-west derby. At Anfield. 7:0.
Of course, the memorable matches were the game against Leeds and Bournemouth, where six and nine goals were scored respectively. And the away meeting with the Rangers in the Champions League with seven goals, but still scoring seven Manchester United is worth a lot. To say that the north-west derby will simply remain in the memory means to say nothing. Liverpool are a big club who have won many trophies, but fans remember how long the victory over the Devils at Old Trafford with Torres and Gerrard was remembered and savored. The new annoying flick on the nose of the Mancunians will probably be remembered for a long time. And not in vain. It is infinitely disappointing that Manchester United ended up in the top 4, and not Liverpool.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool have never finished a game week in the top 4. For the whole 2022/23 campaign. Not a single time. Simply amazing.
