The midfielder Arthur Melo signed a season-long loan contract with Liverpool FC. The new No.29 put pen to paper on the contract at the AXA Training Centre on a transfer deadline day.
There is no obligation to buy the player, but there is an option to make the deal permanent for €37.5 million next summer.
Arthur told: “I’m really, really happy to be here wearing this great shirt with this famous badge that represents so much in world football, it’s a dream.”
The need for a one newer midfield arrival was compounded when Jordan Henderson sustained a hamstring injury in the win match against Newcastle United on August 31.
The 26-year-old is a classy, technical operator in the centre of the park made 63 appearances and scoring one time in two seasons for Juventus and winning the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italia. Before Juventus, Melo played for Barcelona. In two years at Camp Nou, he represented the club 72 times in all competitions and scored six times. Won in Catalonia La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
Alongside Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino, Arthur lifted the Copa America in 2019, starting five of their six matches, including the quarter-final, semi-final and final. In total, The Reds new No.29 played for Brazil in 22 matches.
Arthur in Jurgen Klopp’s squad now joins countrymen Alisson, Firmino and Fabinho. I wonder if Arthur Melo a season-long loan can bolster Liverpool’s midfield options for the remainder of 2022-23.
